A look back at Alisson Becker's exceptional three-and-a-half years at Liverpool thus far

Pepe Reina was a fine goalkeeper for Liverpool between 2005-13. But, when the Spaniard departed Anfield, the club struggled to replace him.

Simon Mignolet joined Liverpol from Sunderland ahead of the 2013-14 campaign. But, time proved that he was not the answer.

The same could be said for Loris Karius who arrived at Anfield from Mainz back in July 2016.

But, the 2018 summer transfer window changed everything. Reds boss Jurgen Klopp signed Alisson from Roma for a transfer fee of €62.50 million.

It was clear from early on that the Brazil international was worth every penny. As you can see in the footage below, the shot-stopper looked calm and composed between the sticks in his opening 10 matches at the club.

Alisson helped Liverpool secure the Champions League trophy during his first season at Liverpool. The Brazil international was our Man of the Match against Tottenham Hotspur in Madrid.

Alisson made some crucial saves on the night to ensure that Liverpool won the match 2-0.

James Milner was certainly a fan of Alisson's debut season at the club.

As quoted by This Is Anfield, the Reds midfielder told the Liverpool FC Magazine: “Coming to a new league is never easy. It’s a new lifestyle and you are also getting used to the weather and things like that.

“But he’s been unbelievable: from how he is around the place, to how good he is on the pitch with his feet and with the saves he makes.

“Every single player makes mistakes and sometimes as a ‘keeper you maybe feel a bit different because mistakes often result in a goal.

“But if he makes a mistake it doesn’t faze him in the slightest and he remains confident and continues playing as if nothing has happened. That’s so important.

“He’s been unbelievable for us this season so far and I believe that he’ll be a massive, massive player for us going forward.”

Milner proved to be right. Since then, Alisson has also won the UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and Premier League title with Liverpool.

It is no real coincidence that the Reds started to have success after the 29-year-old arrived. Alisson's impact on the squad has ultimately been enormous.

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville was full of praise for Alisson back in February 2021. The 46-year-old believes that the goalkeeper is one of three world-class players in the Premier League.

“There’s Kevin De Bruyne and I think Alisson is a world-class goalkeeper, but [Mohamed] Salah is a world-class forward and striker," Neville told Sky Sports, as quoted by Football365.

The aforementioned comments further back up that Alisson is a top-class goalkeeper. It is an honour to watch him represent the club. Therefore, no one associated with Liverpool should be taking Alisson for granted.

But, it is unlikely that anyone is as it did take the club a number of years to replace Reina.

Overall, Alisson has kept 74 clean sheets in 159 appearances for Liverpool's first-team.

The 29-year-old will have the opportunity to add plenty more clean sheets and trophies next to his name over the next few years. Alisson's current deal does not expire until the summer of 2027.

The goalkeeper extended his contract with the club back in August 2021. Alisson is in the prime years of his career, so it made sense to offer him a new deal.

With that being the case, we do expect to see the shot-stopper finish his career at Anfield. But, only time will tell if that is to be the case.

We wish Alisson all the best for the remainder of the 2021-22 campaign.
