A look at Liverpool's opening month of the 2022-23 Premier League season
The 2022-23 Premier League fixtures have been released.
With that being the case, we thought we would take a look at Liverpool's opening month of the campaign.
Fixture dates are subject to change.
Fulham (away) - 6th of August
Liverpool's season will begin with a trip to Craven Cottage. Fulham have just been promoted to the Premier League, so they will definitely be up for the game, especially as it is a home fixture for the London-based club.
Despite that being the case, Liverpool should be winning this match. There is a reason why the Reds challenged for the Premier League title last season and Fulham were fighting for promotion.
Jurgen Klopp's side should have too much class for Marco Silva's team.
Crystal Palace (home) - 13th of August
Liverpool's first home game of the campaign is against Crystal Palace. The Reds defeated the Eagles 3-0 at Anfield last season.
Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Naby Keita were Liverpool's goalscorers on the day.
For the Reds to lose to Crystal Palace, they would have to have an off day. But, the players will need the Anfield crowd to help them get over the line.
Manchester United (away) - 20th of August
Manchester United away is Liverpool's first big fixture of the season. The Reds absolutely battered their rivals at Old Trafford last season.
Liverpool secured a 5-0 victory over Manchester United. Reds boss Jurgen Klopp was thrilled with how his team performed on the day.
But, the German further added that he would be surprised if Liverpool ever defeated the Red Devils so convincingly again.
Klopp told the club's official website the following: "Greatest days? I didn’t think about it, yet. It’s a good day, a really good day and I don’t want to be disrespectful. I have no idea, but it’s a big one. We know that.
"Obviously after the game I got told that never happened in the long history of LFC; this group always wanted to write their own little chapters for the big, big history book of this club.
"This one was a little one tonight, a little chapter. People will talk about it in the future, 100 per cent, because it will not happen very often, if it happens again at all."
We do agree with Klopp's take. Liverpool should be beating Manchester United come August, but not by five goals. The Red Devils are not that bad.
Bournemouth (home) - 27th of August
Bournemouth have also been promoted to the Premier League. Therefore, they should bring a lot of energy to the game.
However, Liverpool are clearly a class above the Cherries. We expect that to show when the fixture comes around.
Newcastle United (home) - 31st of August
Newcastle United improved as the 2021-22 season progressed. They were fighting relegation in the early parts of the campaign.
But, Eddie Howe became the manager in November and the Magpies turned a corner. So, with a full pre-season working under the Englishman, Newcastle United could prove to be quite dangerous next season.
Then again, Liverpool did defeat Howe's Magpies 1-0 at St James' Park a few months ago.
Conclusion
Liverpool should be looking to be unbeaten by the end of August. The reality is, they are a far better side than the opposition teams that they will face.
Manchester City beat Liverpool to the 2021-22 Premier League title by a single point. So, it's crucial that the Reds have a good start to the campaign.
Otherwise, the Citizens could get away from them.
