Last summer, Liverpool signed Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig for a transfer fee of €40 million.

With that being the case, the centre-back has been a Red for just over six months. When Konate joined the club, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp made it clear that he had signed a very promising player.

“I’m really pleased we’ve been able to add a player of Ibrahima’s quality to our squad and he is someone I’ve admired for a long time, ever since I first became aware of his potential when he was at Sochaux [2014-17],” the German said, as quoted by The Liverpool Offside.

“After the problems we had with injuries in the centre-half position last season, there’s no doubt it was clear it was an area of the team we needed to strengthen.

Klopp added: “In Ibrahima we are signing a player who will add to the quality we already have here. His physical attributes are very impressive; he is quick, he is very strong and he is dominant in the air.”

All we will say is that Klopp has proven to be right thus far. Konate is yet to become a regular in Liverpool's starting XI.

However, when the Frenchman has played in Klopp's side, he has impressed. The centre-back has made 14 appearances and averaged a WhoScored player rating of 7.00.

The most impressive performance from Konate in a Liverpool shirt thus far came against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Despite the fact that the centre-back is new to English football and only 22 years of age, he held his own against one of the club's biggest rivals.

Konate helped the Reds secure a 5-0 victory over the Red Devils. Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson said the following about the defender after the Premier League match had concluded.

"I thought he was outstanding," the 31-year-old said, as quoted by TransferMarketWeb.com.

"We've got a few very, very good centre-backs so it's difficult, but I thought he was top class.

“You've got to be to get a clean sheet at Old Trafford so I'm delighted for him and delighted for the team in terms of a clean sheet, I thought, was big for us and we need to keep that going."

There is also another performance from the youngster that we must mention. Back in December, Liverpool came up against AC Milan at the San Siro.

The Reds won the aforementioned Champions League group stage fixture 2-1. Konate went head-to-head with Zlatan Ibrahimovic on the night.

The Frenchman kept the world superstar pretty quiet. With that being the case, Ibrahimovic was full of praise for Konate after the match.

As quoted by The News Motion, the 40-year-old said: “I asked to exchange shirts with Liverpool defender Konate. He won all the fights with me on the ground and in the air. I told him that he will be a great defender in the future and that he remembers my words well.”

Konate has had a really good start to life at Anfield. When the man has been asked to play, he has performed more times than not.

There is no denying that the centre-back possesses a bright future in the game. The exciting thing about Konate is that he is still so young.

It would be fair to state that he is far from the finished article. Hopefully Konate can continue to learn from senior centre-backs Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip.

We do look forward to seeing how good the defender can become in the future. We wish Konate all the best for the remainder of the season.
