"One of the stars of the show" - Michael Owen praises Alisson for his 2021-22 campaign
Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen has recently praised Reds goalkeeper Alisson.
The Brazil international was very good between the sticks during Liverpool's 3-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield on the final day of the 2021-22 Premier League season (yesterday).
Alisson registered a WhoScored player rating of 7.46 for his display against Wolves.
Therefore, Owen waxed lyrical about the 29-year-old's performance. The Englishman also touched on Alisson's top-flight campaign, where he kept 20 clean sheets (equal most in the league).
“How big a save could this be (saving Hwang Hee-chan's one v one effort in the first-half),” Owen told Premier League Productions, as quoted by HITC.
“This was a brilliant save. It was similar to the chance at the other end when Sadio Mane came in and scored.
“Alisson, he has been one of the stars of the show. The stars of the Premier League this season.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
As we have pointed out, Alisson was superb across the 2021-22 campaign. But, his efforts weren't enough to secure Liverpool the Premier League title.
The Reds ended up finishing one-point behind the champions - Manchester City.
Alisson has been a top player for Liverpool over the years. The Reds signed the goalkeeper from Roma for a transfer fee of £56.25 million back in the summer of 2018 and he has not looked back.
Alisson has helped Liverpool win the Champions League, Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, Premier League title, League Cup and FA Cup.
The Brazil international is contracted until the summer of 2027. Therefore, the Anfield faithful will be able to sit back and watch Alisson in goal for several more years.
With that being the case, Liverpool's reserve goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher might have to depart the club if he wants to play regular senior football.
But, only time will tell where the Irishman's long-term future lies.
