"One of the best" - Thiago Alcantara on winning Champions League Goal of the Season
Thiago Alcantara has said that his goal against Porto in the Champions League is "one of the best" goals he's ever scored.
Speaking to UEFA, as quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, the Liverpool midfielder spoke about his volley against Porto which won the Champions League Goal of the Season.
"Yeah, for sure. One of the best goals. One of the best! I love to hit the ball with this kind of volley," said Thiago.
“I’m not a player who scores that often. I assist more, make the team play, but I don’t score that often and when you score it’s an amazing feeling, a special feeling. If you score it’s an amazing feeling but scoring this type of goal is even better.
“So yeah, you feel it was a special goal. It was a Champions League game, and to score in this type of game is amazing.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
It was an absolute beauty from Thiago. There was a lot of debate about whether it touched the ground or if it floated across the surface before hitting the net.
Wherever it hit, it was a stunning volley and a deserving winner of the Champions League Goal of the Season.
Thiago was a key player for Jurgen Klopp's side this season, playing 39 games across all competitions. In those games, he got two goals and five assists.
If the Spaniard can stay fit like he did this season, then he is going to be a massive part of our title run during the next campaign.
With it being reported that the Reds are in the market for a midfielder this summer, a lot of fans are hoping that it is a right-sided player who can partner up with Thiago and Fabinho.
Whoever we sign, if they're playing alongside Thiago, then they're going to learn so much thanks to his expertise.
