"One of the best in the world" - Ajax winger on Trent Alexander-Arnold

Ajax winger Antony has waxed lyrical about Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The 23-year-old has been a superb player for the Reds over the years. Alexander-Arnold is a defender by trade.

But, he adds so much going forward. Alexander-Arnold has found the back of the net 12 times and registered 62 assists in 226 appearances for Liverpool's first-team.

The Scouser was also exceptional for the Reds last season. He averaged a WhoScored player rating of 7.43 across the 2021-22 campaign.

Therefore, we weren't surprised to hear Antony label Alexander-Arnold as "one of the best" full-backs in the world.

As quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter, he told PlayStation the following: “He is a player I like very much, and for me one of the best in the world.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

The exciting thing about Alexander-Arnold is that he is only 23 years of age. It would be fair to assume that he is far from the finished article.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes that Alexander-Arnold's game is evolving.

As quoted by TeamTalk, he said the following on Instagram back in May: “I think his defending has improved.

“He was fantastic in the FA Cup final (against Chelsea at Wembley Stadium).

“He looks like he has bulked up and filled out, whether he is getting bigger or stronger. Or he is on a weights programme.

“He looks a lot more like a real man in that shirt now. When he’s defending, he didn’t have the power. He will never have the full power of a Reece James or a Kyle Walker.

“But he’s a lot stronger in his body, so when somebody is running at him, he can get that shoulder and arm across. I have noticed that a lot more in the last four or five months, his defending improving.”

On another note, we are confident that Alexander-Arnold could be Liverpool's next captain. The reality is, he leads on the pitch and he is a local lad.

Jordan Henderson isn't getting any younger. The current Reds skipper is 32 years of age. So, he is at the backend of his career.
