Only an injury crisis will spark Liverpool January transfer action

Liverpool could make moves in the January transfer window if an injury crisis forces their hand, similar to the one that hit last year at the same time.

The Reds had centre-back issues for much of last season and with Joel Matip and Fabinho picking up injuries in the month of January, late signings were made that saw Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies arrive at the club.

Certainly, it is not particularly standard procedure for the Reds to do business in January based on recent seasons but Kevin Palmer reports that that could change if, and only if, another big injury crisis rears its head.

It's probably fair to say that Liverpool are suffering injuries at the moment and fitness problems but a lot of them are covid related and it's probably not as desperate a situation as it was last year where there seemed to be a fresh centre-back issue nearly every week.

The Reds have got a lot to contend with at the moment but games may well be postponed to help their cause, and the squad overall if you ignore covid is still pretty fit - only the likes of Thiago is injured who you would consider a real first-team regular.

That in mind, then, it seems pretty unlikely that the Reds are going to do any business in the current transfer window and we'll just have to hope that once this covid wave passes we can concentrate on trying to win some trophies in the coming months.
