"Once everyone is back" - Pundit on Harvey Elliott's minutes
Pundit Frank McAvennie has recently spoken about Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott.
The 19-year-old has had a bright start to the 2022-23 campaign. Elliott has averaged a WhoScored player rating of 6.75 across eight matches (six starts).
The Englishman also found the back of the net against Bournemouth at Anfield back in August.
However, McAvennie believes that Elliott's minutes will be managed once key players return from their respective injuries.
“Jurgen Klopp will not be happy that he’s got to play him all the time. He’s only a young boy and he’ll be wanting to monitor his development. The quicker they get players back from injury the better,” the former Celtic man told Football Insider.
“He’ll become a better player just from training with these boys every day. I think he’ll be closer to the first-team than he has been for a long time because of the performances he’s put in. I think he’ll be part of the first-team squad no matter what.
“Whether he plays every week I’m not sure. Once everyone is back and playing, Jurgen will pick his games rather than being forced to play him all the time. They need the experience back.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
We can see where McAvennie is coming from. Klopp would probably like to rotate his squad a bit more due to the amount of games Liverpool play per week.
But, the manager can't do that right now. However, it has been nice to see Elliott start some games.
The lad is a real talent. When Elliott gets on the ball, he looks to make things happen.
When the midfielder is out of possession, he hunts the ball. There is a lot to like about Elliott.
