Liverpool have done well to keep pace with them, but have been second-best on numerous occasions in some exhilarating title races which have gone down to the wire.

This is partly due to their attacking presence. And more specifically Erling Haaland. The man is a freak of nature, registering 36 goals in his first season breaking the all-time record held by Mohamed Salah.

He has a presence in front of goal which is frightening and his strength emphasises that he is one of the best strikers in the world.

But City are currently in a crisis, and their latest transfer move is one which questions their motives.

City pushing for Marmoush

According to Foot Mercato, the Citizens have already “made an offer” for Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt to join the club next summer.

The Egyptian striker has been nothing short of sensational this season, bagging 13 Bundesliga goals in 15 starts.

Liverpool have also shown strong interest in the player, but the call of City seems too attractive with the report stating “the player has already spoken with City's directors and seems very excited about the project.”

Does this move make sense?

Although it is frustrating that a Reds target could move to a rival club, the move makes zero sense for City themselves.

They have one of the deadliest strikers in history leading their line. Although he has dipped in form this season, he has still bagged 16 goals in the Premier League so far, one behind Salah.

It would make more sense for Pep to invest his money elsewhere. Their squad is crying out for a new defensive midfielder, with Mateo Kovacic looking completely out of his depth trying to replace Rodri this season.

Moreover, an ageing Kyle Walker has been less than convincing, being replaced by 20-year-old Rico Lewis who has also struggled with the intensity of the Premier League.

And the goalkeeper situation is hysterical. Ederson, considered better than Alisson, has fallen apart this season, leading to 32-year-old Stefan Ortega to replace him.

The purchase of Marmoush would be a panic buy. No plan, no execution and thought, just the idea that they can steal a player off of other rivals.

Liverpool are more strategic with their moves, that’s why business is limited. And it could massively backfire for Marmoush as he could easily be left on the bench to rot wondering where it all went wrong.

But City panicking is music to Liverpool fans' ears. Normally such a composed outfit, their patience and self-control seems to have run out.
