"Oh my goodness" - Darren Bent has praised the pace of Liverpool new-boy
Pundit Darren Bent has praised Liverpool new-boy Darwin Nunez.
The striker was impressive against Manchester City in the Community Shield final last weekend. Nunez helped Liverpool secure a 3-1 victory over the Citizens at the King Power Stadium.
The Uruguay international scored the Reds' final goal of the match. However, Bent found Nunez's pace to be the most impressive aspect of his game.
He told talkSPORT (03:08) the following: “When he brought on Nunez, oh my goodness, that player, what a guy! People criticised him in pre-season, someone put a montage of his misses in pre-season, but he scored four goals in one half and he showed what he’s all about against Manchester City.
“The first through ball, I think it was (Luis) Diaz he ran away from, I remember thinking phwoar, I didn’t think he was that quick! Ran away from Diaz, probably should score. The goal that he does score, typical poacher in and around the six yard box, directing the header, really, really good impact and I think he’ll score goals in the Premier League, I really do.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
Nunez is a big boy. The striker stands at 1.87m, but, despite that being the case, he is quick across the surface.
We do get the feeling that Nunez is going to be a hit at Anfield. Jurgen Klopp is a top manager.
The German has made very few bad signings throughout his career. So, under the watchful eye of Klopp, we can only see Nunez gradually improving.
The forward is only 23 years of age, which means that he has room for improvement. We wish Nunez all the very best ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.
