Official - Liverpool sign Darwin Nunez from Benfica for €100m
Liverpool have officially announced the signing of Darwin Nunez from Benfica.
It feels like we've been waiting weeks for the Reds to announce the arrival of Nunez, but they have now officially confirmed the transfer.
As reports previously state, the Uruguayan is contracted at Anfield until 2028, meaning that he'll be at Liverpool, hopefully, for the next six seasons.
Despite the Reds waiting an extra day, Nunez's former club, Benfica, announced the transfer yesterday.
In their official statement, they confirmed that they sold the 22-year-old to Liverpool for €75 million, with the fee potentially rising to €100 million due to add-ons.
Anfield Watch Verdict
Now that Nunez is a Liverpool player, Jurgen Klopp and his staff can start working on how to implement the 6'2 striker into our system
When the Reds faced Benfica in the Champions League last season, Klopp spoke very highly of the Uruguay international.
Who would've thought a few months down the line we'd be seeing him in a Liverpool shirt.
"An extremely good looking boy eh?! He was calm for the finish. He is good, really good. If he stays healthy, he has a big career ahead of him," said Klopp, as quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account.
Klopp clearly wanted the striker and thankfully Fenway Sports Group have backed him to the hills.
A transfer fee of €100 million seems like a lot of money, and it is. However, the German would not spend that much on a 22-year-old if he didn't fully believe he was going to be a top player.
Now, Klopp has the chance to work with Nunez and turn him into one of the best strikers in the world.
The 54-year-old's transfers usually don't fail, so hopefully this is another one that is bound for greatness.
