Nottingham Forest vs Liverpool - predictions

Liverpool are looking to maintain their spot at the top of the Premier League table on Saturday as they visit strugglers Nottingham Forest.

The Reds have won five games on the bounce following last Sunday's Carabao Cup final and the midweek FA Cup clash against Southampton, and they will be aiming to put pressure on title rivals Arsenal and Manchester City - both of whom play after Liverpool.

While Forest may be sat in a worrying 17th - only four points off the relegation zone - Jurgen Klopp needs no reminders of how difficult a trip to the City Ground can be.

Liverpool lost 1-0 in the Midlands last season thanks to Taiwo Awoniyi's strike, with revenge on the mind this weekend.

Andy Headspeath: Weirdly, Liverpool have never won at the City Ground in the Premier League.

Admittedly, Forest have been out of the Premier League for a fair chunk in that time, but it's still slightly unusual. Ex-Red Taiwo Awoniyi scored the only goal of the game in this fixture last season.

However, Liverpool are riding high right now and even with all the injury worries, you'd back them to break that 'curse' against a Forest side who have won just one of their last nine in all competitions and have only four from 13 at home in the league in 2023/24.

A strong win, returns for a couple of key players and absolutely no more injuries would be perfect ahead of Man City.

Ewan Ross-Murray: With Darwin Nunez and Dominik Szoboszlai in line for returns against Forest, Liverpool will be even stronger favourites for their trip to the Midlands this weekend.

The Reds won the reverse fixture 3-0 with little fuss and, even with their current injury list, should have what it takes to find a way past Forest, even if it's not their best display of the season.

However, the City Ground will be bouncing and the likes of Anthony Elanga, Morgan Gibbs-White and, dare I say it, Divock Origi will offer the hosts plenty of attacking threat.

But Klopp's men (and kids) have shown that they can win matches in a multitude of different ways this campaign. I'm going for a narrow, but significant, victory for Liverpool.

Alex Caple: One massive bonus of winning with the kids in midweek was that the senior players who can face Forest should have had a decent rest.

Still, there are so many injuries that it's difficult to predict the XI here. But Liverpool should have enough to see this one through, especially as confidence is sky-high right now.

It feels like the team can win no matter who's out there. Forest are in pretty poor form, too, and if Klopp can recall a few senior stars, he'll have an XI that goes out there with confidence.

Liverpool might need to scrap for it but they should walk away with three comfortable points.
