Nottingham Forest vs Liverpool player ratings as Reds advance to FA Cup semi-final
Liverpool made difficult work of their quarter-final game against Nottingham Forest today and with some mixed performances, here are our player ratings.
Despite not winning, Nottingham Forest put in an unbelievable performance against Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool side today.
Even though they were great, some Liverpool players were very poor and they didn't look their usual selves.
However, despite some poor displays, the Reds have advanced to the FA Cup semi-final and they will play Pep Guardiola's Manchester City at Wembley.
So here are our player ratings for today's quarter-final against Nottingham Forest.
Alisson - 7/10
Despite a shaky moment in the second half, Alisson wasn't really threatened by Forest. There was a penalty incident late on in the game but VAR deemed that Steve Cooper's man tried to initiate the contact.
Joe Gomez - 7.5/10
Joe Gomez doesn't provide what Trent Alexander-Arnold can from right-back. However, he did have a very solid game today. In the first half, the 24-year-old was marauding forward and defensively he was also very solid. A decent game by Gomez today.
Ibrahima Konate - 7/10
Both central defenders played well today. Ibrahima Konate was very fast to react to any danger from the Forest forwards and he was also dominant in the air, winning four of his six aerial duels.
Virgil van Dijk - 7/10
Very similar to Konate, Virgil van Dijk was breaking up every Forest attack. The Dutchman was also starting off a lot of Liverpool's attacks with his signature long balls. Standard performance from Virgil.
Kostas Tsimikas - 8/10
A great game by Kostas Tsimikas today. A great ball for the only goal of the game and he showed once again why he is a great backup for Andy Robertson.
Hopefully, the 'Greek Scouser' can keep putting these performances in when he is called upon.
Fabinho - 7.5/10
Fabinho, what a great game by the Brazilian. When he was on the pitch he was magnificent. He won every single duel, 8/8, and he was key to Liverpool's press.
When he went off, we lost a little bit of control in the midfield and the Reds just didn't have the same energy as when Fab was on the pitch.
Naby Keita - 5/10
A poor performance by Naby Keita, he just couldn't win any of his duels and when we were on the attack he couldn't find that killer pass that the Reds needed.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - 4/10
A very poor game for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, proving once again why he isn't good enough for this Liverpool side. Every pass he played seemed to be misplaced.
I'm also not too sure why he was angry about being substituted after that performance.
Harvey Elliott - 5/10
Harvey Elliot had a good 15-20 minutes but after that he was invisible. He was playing some good passes with Joe Gomez but apart from that, it was a very average performance from Harvey. Hopefully, he can do better the next opportunity he gets.
Roberto Firmino - 5.5/10
In the first 15 minutes, it seemed like Roberto Firmino was going to be the key to unlocking this championship defence. However, after that opening spell, Firmino's performance dropped off and he didn't look up to it at all. The Brazilian also messed up one of the easiest 1v1's you're ever going to see.
This was a big game for Firmino to stake his place in the front three. Unfortunately, he didn't do that today against Forest.
Diogo Jota - 5.5/10
This was a very Diogo Jota-esque performance. He went missing for a large majority of the game but he scored when we needed to. Despite the goal, his all-round game was quite disappointing. However, he provides something that no other Liverpool forward does.
Thanks for sending us to Wembley, Diogo.
Substitutes 64
Luis Diaz (64 for Harvey Elliott) - 6/10
The game was screaming out for Luis Diaz from the first minute. When he came on he looked sharp, direct and his runs in behind were causing Forest an issue. However, nothing seemed to fall to him but it was still a good cameo.
Takumi Minamino (64 for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain) - 6/1o
Takumi Minamino was largely unnoticeable when he came on but he was better than Elliot so not too many complaints.
Jordan Henderson (64 for Fabinho) - 6.5/10
A captain's display when he came on. Jordan Henderson took control of the midfield and attempted to thwart Forest's late attacks.
Thiago Alcantara (64 for Naby Keita ) - 7/10
The gulf in class between Thiago and the Nottingham Forest players was easy to see. The Spaniard came on and was very direct, something that Keita or the Ox weren't. More proof as to why Thiago needs to play every game for Liverpool.
