Nottingham Forest team news ahead of Liverpool clash

Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper has delivered a 'frustrating' injury update ahead of his side's meeting with Liverpool this weekend.

Nottingham Forest will be far from full strength at the weekend as they travel to Anfield. Steve Cooper's team are far from favourites as it is - let alone without several first-team players.

Cooper delivered his team news on Friday, making it clear that Forest are particularly short up top. Former Liverpool pair Taiwo Awoniyi and Divock Origi remain out with injuries, while Anthony Elanga is a major doubt for the game.

“Nobody is going to return to the starting line-up, which is obviously frustrating - particularly at the top end of the pitch, where we are not blessed with a lot of options because of player availability,”said Cooper, per the Nottingham Post.

“Anthony has been ill for a few days as well. He will be touch and go for the game.

“If he is available, we are not sure if he will be available to start. He was excellent against Luton, so that would be unfortunate. Premier League games are really demanding when it comes to the physical aspect of things, so he is a doubt.”

Gonzalo Montiel, Danilo, Nuno Tavares and Felipe are all out, too - and the quartet would have likely started against Liverpool.

Of course, this all makes the Reds overwhelming favourites against Forest on Sunday. The visitors haven't won in their last five, but they've also only lost once in that span - away to Manchester City.

But with Cooper struggling to put a team together for this one, Liverpool should be able to assert control at Anfield. The Reds are hoping to keep pressure on the top of the table and will fully expect to do so against Forest.
