'Nothing really changes' - Jurgen Klopp refutes title talk after Arsenal defeat

Jurgen Klopp is adamant that "nothing really changes" for Liverpool in the Premier League after they suffered a disappointing 3-1 defeat at Arsenal on Sunday. 

The Reds somehow went into half-time level despite an underwhelming performance, Gabriel's own goal cancelling out Bukayo Saka's opener for the hosts.

However, a calamitous mix-up between Virgil van Dijk and Alisson gifted Gabriel Martinelli and Arsenal a second, while Leandro Trossard's late defelcted third put the game to bed after Ibrahima Konate's red card.

All in all, it was a pretty disastrous display from Klopp's men, and a result that cuts their lead at the top of the table with Manchester City boasting two games in hand.

After the match, Klopp refused to be drawn into questions about the significance of the result in relation to the title race and insisted that nothing has changed for the Reds moving forward.

"At the final whistle I didn’t think for a second about the number of games left for City," said Klopp. "We have to play to our potential and deal with difficulties around the games and play with our soul on the pitch and we will see where it ends up.

"I am not nervous now because of two games in hand for City. We expect them always to win their games. Nothing really changes. We would have loved to win here but we were not good enough.

"Today, nobody celebrates as champions and nobody is relegated. We have time to create our own destiny.

"Today, everything went against us. We got a red card, and they didn’t get a red card. Some situations could have been different. But its done, I don’t care about it anymore."

Liverpool still sit top of the table and will finish the gameweek at the summit regardless of Man City's result against Brentford this Monday, but Arsenal are now just two points off Klopp's side and firmly back in the title picture.

Liverpool will be looking to get back to winning ways next weekend when they host 19th-placed Burnley in the Premier League, after which they face a trip to Brentford.
