Nigerian journalist takes aim at Liverpool supporters regarding Sadio Mane

Nigerian journalist Ibukun Aluko is not pleased with how the Liverpool supporters have treated Sadio Mane in the past six years.

The winger has reportedly agreed to join Bayern Munich this summer. With that being the case, it is the end for the much-loved original front three of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Mane.

However, Aluko has made it clear that the Senegal international was not "truly loved" by the Anfield faithful.

"Liverpool fans never treated him like a Legend, never allowed him celebrate his AFCON win, always the easy target whenever the team isn’t playing," he tweeted.

"I’m happy Sadio Mane is finally going to a club he will be truly loved.

"My man deserves to be celebrated."

Anfield Watch Verdict

We don't agree with Aluko's take. The Liverpool supporters have always got behind Mane.

In our eyes, he is up there with Salah in terms of popularity. As you can see above, the Liverpool supporters even created a song for Mane.

But, the Senegal international was not only loved by the fans. He was also adored by Reds boss Jurgen Klopp.

"He’s a machine, I told him after the game," the German said back in May, as quoted by EuroSport.

"Massive player. (His) physicality is brutal, this mix of technique, desire, and physicality in this moment when everybody has a few yards in the legs...you can see it with him to be honest. Top goal, just fantastic, a world-class player."

So, we do believe that Mane was respected by the people that mattered most during his time at Anfield - Klopp and the supporters.

The winger will be remembered for all his goals and assists.
