Nice set new demand as Liverpool still watching Khephren Thuram

Liverpool are reportedly still watching Khephren Thuram. The interest has Nice setting a new asking price for their midfielder.

Corriere dello Sport reports that Liverpool remain in the race for OGC Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram. They claim this in a report that Juventus will also push to sign the player.

Liverpool, of course, were consistently linked with Thuram earlier this year. The reports started well before the summer window and continued throughout - but the Reds ultimately signed different midfielders.

The feeling is that Liverpool aren't done with their midfield overhaul, however. Dominik Szoboszali, Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo all arrived - few think that's quite enough. Especially with Thiago not only missing the entire season so far but also out of contract in 2024.

Thus interest in Thuram feels almost inevitable. Nice are aware of this and the current price is pushing €40m or around £35m. It could yet rise further.

The French club are enjoying a great season, after all. They're second in Ligue 1, one point behind Paris Saint-Germain and are the only unbeaten side left in the league.

Thuram has been a big part of that. Nice won't let him go easily, if at all in January but it appears that clubs will try nonetheless.

But it's difficult to tell whether Liverpool will be one. They reportedly have other options, after all, while January has always been a window they're reluctant to do much business in. The Thuram deal would either need to be a bargain or an opportunity they feel they can't miss.

Perhaps that will be the case, though. The Reds don't have any glaring must-sign players waiting for them this winter and a new midfielder - one who wins tackles as Thuram does - would go a long way to making them competitive through the rest of the campaign.
