'Amorim-ball!' - Liverpool fans THRILLED watching electric Sporting CP attack

Some Liverpool fans have recently begun to pay a lot more attention to fixtures involving Sporting CP, the club is coached by Ruben Amorim - reportedly among the contenders to take over from Jurgen Klopp in the Anfield hotseat. 

Although Xabi Alonso was the No.1 choice to succeed the 56-year-old German, the World Cup-winning former midfielder has opted to stay with Bayer Leverkusen to build on his maiden Bundesliga title win. 

Amorim is one of the options linked with the Liverpool job - the 39-year-old former Portugal international who has restored the glory days to the Lisbon giants as manager. 

In 2021, Amorim oversaw Sporting’s first Liga Portugal title win in 19 years and he has also added two Portuguese cups for good measure. 

He has earned a reputation as a developer of players too, with Matheus Nunes, Pedro Porro and Manuel Ugarte making multi-million euro moves on the back of time spent working under Amorim at Sporting. 

And the Lions look destined to claim another league title in the next couple of weeks, requiring just two more wins from their final six matches of the season. 

Amorim has tried his best to dampen expectations that he will be moving to Liverpool as the season draws to a close, although he admitted last week that his own son had requested that he stay with the club. 

There is a release clause in his Sporting contract, believed to be around €15 million, with his current terms extending until 2026. 

And if Liverpool do manage to get a deal done for the former Benfica player, fans will be pleased to see some intricate attacking football on display. 

Sporting’s latest Primeira Liga match came on Sunday night against Vitoria Guimaraes, which finished 3-0 to the title favourites. 

Goals from Pedro Goncalves (Pote) and two from Viktor Gyokeres, back in the goals after a lean spell, granted Sporting a facile victory. 

Reds were particularly enamoured with the second goal, with Swedish sensation Gyokeres - watched by Reds' scouts - netting after some nifty one-touch play around the area. 

And so “Amorim-ball” was born on the social networking site X, formerly Twitter. 

Liverpool have a wealth of attacking talent in their ranks and, with goalscoring proving to be a bugbear in recent weeks, fans will already be looking forward to next season and Amorim having the chance to get his players up and running with this kind of football. 

Following David Ornstein's update that the Reds were 'unlikely' to recruit the Portuguese, however, where Liverpool's next manager comes from is anyone's guess.
