Liverpool have spoken to Paulo Fonseca over their soon-to-be vacant manager's role.

The Lille boss is admired by those at the club and informal talks took place earlier in the season regarding the Liverpool position.

The Ligue 1 side reached the quarter finals of the Europa Conference League and are currently fourth in the table in France.

Fonseca has impressed since moving to Les Dogues, developing a number of youngsters while keeping the team competitive. He has previously been coach of Roma and Shakhtar Donetsk, among others, coaching the Ukrainian giants to three consecutive league and cup doubles during his time in charge.

The normally reliable journalist David Ornstein claims that Liverpool appointing Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim now looks 'unlikely' this summer.

The 39-year-old coach has long been considered Liverpool's favoured candidate after Xabi Alonso committed his future to Bayer Leverkusen, with plenty of reports linking the Sporting head coach with a move to Anfield to replace Jurgen Klopp.

It's a move that many supporters were excited about but it now appears that the Reds may be looking in a different direction when it comes to Klopp's successor.

Amorim meeting with West Ham?

The Sporting coach reportedly flew to London on Monday for talks over a move to West Ham United, who are eying an ambitious swoop should David Moyes leave the club.

While it might appear that Amorim is heading to the Hammers now, a Portugal-based reporter believes that the 39-year-old is also meeting with Liverpool on his trip with his agent.

Liverpool speculation brushed off by Amorim

The Sporting manager himself also brushed off speculation linking him with a move to Liverpool this summer, insisting that he is simply focusing on the final games of the season. 

Sporting are still on course for a domestic double this season and took a step towards the Primeira Liga title on Sunday when they beat Vitoria de Guimaraes 3-0 to move ten points clear at the top of the table before Benfica's match on Monday.

The coach refused to be drawn into discussions on his future after the final whistle, claiming that 'nothing has changed' in recent weeks.

Former Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino has put his luxurious six-bedroom mansion in Formby up for sale, finally drawing a line under his time on Merseyside.
