Where Arne Slot ranks on list of most EXPENSIVE managers after Liverpool deal agreed

While Liverpool are yet to officially confirm Arne Slot as Jurgen Klopp's successor, the Dutchman is set to be announced as the Reds' next head coach in the near future. 

Despite Xabi Alonso and Ruben Amorim having been front-runners for extended periods, Liverpool have opted to go for the Feyenoord boss after his impressive career in the Netherlands.

Reports from last week confirmed that Liverpool have reached an agreement with Feyenoord over a compensation package for the 45-year-old, who has won the Eredivisie and Dutch Cup during his time with the Rotterdam club.

Much like players, fees for managers have shot up in recent years, especially when there is no specific release clause in place to make a deal more straightforward.

Liverpool have been willing to splash the cash on Slot, making him one of the most expensive manager acquisitions of all time.

According to reports, Liverpool will be sending £9.4m in the direction of Feyenoord to secure Slot's services - £7.7m as a base fee with £1.7m in potential add-ons.

As per GiveMeSport, that makes the Dutch coach the fourth most expensive manager of all time.

The three coaches ahead of him in the list are Julian Nagelsmann (£21.7m from RB Leipzig to Bayern Munich), Graham Potter (£21.5m from Brighton to Chelsea) and Andre Villas-Boas (£13.3m from Porto to Chelsea).

None of those deals worked out particularly well, especially in the case of Potter at Chelsea, highlighting that spending huge sums on a manager doesn't guarantee success.

Interestingly, Liverpool-linked Amorim is sixth in the list, with Sporting CP spending £8.6m to take him from Braga in 2020.

Former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers also makes the top ten twice, with Liverpool spending £5m to sign him from Swansea City and Leicester City spending £8.8m to take him from Celtic.

The Reds will be hopeful that Slot's tenure at Anfield is far more successful than Rodgers' stint in the dugout, but £9.4m is still not a great deal of money in modern football.
