Liverpool are not the only team who have been looking for a new manager, with Jurgen Klopp set to depart at the end of the season.

Arne Slot is set to swap Feyenoord for Anfield, and the Rotterdam giants are also on the lookout for a new boss.

The latest name linked to the De Kuip hotseat is Nuri Sahin, the former Liverpool midfielder who shone under Klopp during his playing days at Borussia Dortmund.

Sahin, 35, played a crucial role in Klopp’s all-conquering Dortmund side before moving, albeit briefly, to Real Madrid and then Liverpool.

Since retiring in October 2021, the German-born ex-Turkey international has been engaged in a coaching career, doing an admirable job as head coach and sporting director at Antalyaspor before returning to Dortmund.

Now an assistant to Edin Terzic for the Champions League finalists, the question is not if Sahin will get another head coaching job but rather when.

After an underwhelming first half of the 2023-24 season, Borussia Dortmund boss Edin Terzic decided that he needed more help and turned to two former distinguished BVB players to bolster his coaching staff.

Sahin and ex-teammate Sven Bender joined Terzic's camp as assistant coaches and Dortmund's fortunes have certainly improved.

It had been suggested that Sahin might well step into the head coach role at Signal Iduna Park next season but his coaching journey could now be set for a different direction.

The ex-playmaker spent a season on loan at Feyenoord back in the 2007-08 season, collecting a KNVB Beker (Dutch cup).

According to Voetbal International, he could be now set for an emotional return to the Netherlands with the club seeking a permanent successor to Slot.

The 45-year-old was twice crowned Dutch manager of the year, won an Eredivisie title last year as well as a Dutch cup this season.

Slot will have big shoes to fill and the former Liverpool loanee could be the man to do it.
