Liverpool Academy continues to bear fruit with the emergence of 18-year-old Lewis Koumas, who has caught the eye of Jurgen Klopp and his coaching staff.

After earning a place on the Liverpool first-team bench for the side's 3-1 Premier League win over Burnley on Saturday, it seems it's only a matter of time before a first-team breakthrough.

According to Football Insider, Koumas has been fast-tracked to first-team training in recent weeks after showcasing his talents in the club's youth ranks, particularly with the under-21s.

Now, the report says, plans are under way to integrate him into senior action.

Standout performer

Koumas, who transitioned from midfield to a forward last season, and now operates primarily on the left side of the attack, has been a standout performer in Liverpool's youth setup.

His impressive goal-scoring record, tallying 12 goals and three assists in just 15 appearances across various competitions this season, has not gone unnoticed. In fact, this was the second time Koumas made a senior matchday squad this season.

The youngster also joined the first team in the early stages of pre-season in the summer, signalling Klopp's growing confidence in the young talent.

A "diamond"

Described as a "diamond" within the club, the 18-year-old, who is the son of former Wales international Jason Koumas, is seen as a player capable of making a significant impact at the senior level.

Liverpool's under-21 coach, Barry Lewtas, showered praise on the youngster when he spoke to the club's official website last year.

"Lewis has been brilliant for us," he said, highlighting Koumas's aggressive playing style and positive influence within the squad.

"He is a real energetic frontline player, loves to run in behind, he is aggressive in how he approaches the game and has really good technique. He is a really good footballer."

As well as making his mark internally, Koumas has already begun to make waves on the international stage, too.

Having made his debut for Wales' under-19s and already earned four caps, anticipation continues to build around Liverpool's latest prodigy.
