Anfield Watch exclusively revealed that this search has taken the Reds to entering talks with Milos Kerkez and also considering a move for Lewis Hall.

However, there are also exciting young players in the club's academy who could be promoted and given an opportunity to shine in the first team.

One player is nearing that chance, having made several promotions in the last few weeks that have gotten him ever closer to Slot's side, and he is now one to keep a close eye on.

Clae Ewing nearing first team opportunity

One player who has is going under the radar at academy level at the moment is Clae Ewing. A talented defender, who can also play in midfield, the 18-year-old has been playing for the club's academy since U12 level after joining from Bury.

This season he has made great strides while also showing his versatility. Predominantly, he has been used as a left-back for the club's U18 team, playing nine matches in total and scoring one goal while registering three assists.

But he's also stepped in a few times to play as a central midfielder, highlighting his tactical flexibility which is great to see from a player at such a young age.

Ewing's efforts are also now being recognised higher up the ranks, too.

Earlier this month, Ewing earned a promotion to the club's U19 team making his debut in the UEFA Youth League against Stuttgart with a brilliant performance.

He made 10 recoveries, and seven interceptions while winning six out of his eight defensive duels. That alone highlights just how good he is defensively.

Ewing reads the game well, and he's good in one vs one challenges, too.

His performance must have caught the eye of the club's academy coaches because last week, Ewing earned a promotion to the U21 side making his debut in a 1-0 victory over Stoke City on Friday night.

Ewing again produced a stellar performance winning six out of his 10 duels and making five interceptions.

He looked good offensively, too making 18 forward passes and always looking to instigate attacks for his team.

Having earned two quick promotions in the matter of less than a few weeks, Ewing is now one step closer to the first team.

If he continues at this rate, a debut under Slot won't be too far away, and perhaps in the future he'll even have a spot to become the next Robertson at the club.

For now, he's one to keep a close eye on because he is making really positive strides.
