Martin Skrtel has said that being involved with Liverpool Football Club is like being part of one big family.

Speaking to The Times, as quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, the former Reds centre-back (left in 2016) said that he has never stopped supporting or watching Liverpool over the years.

“It’s everything. I was proud to be part of the team. Every single day was like a big present for me. Liverpool is one of the biggest clubs in the world historically, but also the team and the club are like one big family," he said.

“It’s all the people there: the coaching staff, the medical staff, the people working in the kitchen and in the stadium. They are very close to each other. That’s why when you leave the club, you still feel close and part of the club.

"Since I left, I’ve never stopped watching Liverpool or stopped supporting Liverpool.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

One of my favourite things about being a Liverpool fan is how much love we have for ex-players.

It doesn't matter if they were the best player in the world or a squad player, if you have a good relationship with that fans, you will always be remembered fondly.

Skrtel is well and truly on that list in my eyes. He may not have been our best-ever defender, but he played with his heart on his sleeve and gave 100% every time he played for Liverpool.

It also helped that he scored a few nice goals during his time on Merseyside.

To hear ex-players talk about our club like this is so special. We are one of a kind and it's amazing that the players appreciate it too.

This squad is no different. Once they retire or leave the club, they'll probably speak about how much they loved their time at Liverpool.

We definitely are the best fanbase in world football aren't we!
