Journalist Neil Jones has given his verdict on Liverpool's reported interest in Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland.

Jones implied that the 21-year-old would be interested in playing for the Reds.

However, the journalist further added that he is unsure if Liverpool can afford Haaland.

The Norway international's contract expires in the summer of 2024. Haaland will reportedly be available for a transfer fee of €75 million (release clause) next summer.

As quoted by The Redmen TV, Jones told the Journo Insight Show the following: “You look at Haaland’s career path, it has been a pretty good one for a young player.

"He has done it step by step, gone to Salzburg, gone to Dortmund and looks like he’s going to go on to somewhere else. I think Liverpool are an attractive club or team to play for, a manager to play for, a ground to play in, a league to play in.

"The big elephant in the room is can they match salary, transfer fee, agents fee, all those things? I think they probably could [match] two of them.

"I think they are willing to pay agents good money, I think they are willing to pay good wages for top players. I think the next question would be are they going to commit £150-200 million for a player? They never have before.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

We would love to see Haaland in a Liverpool shirt. The striker is a world-class player.

Haaland has scored 76 goals and registered 20 assists in 75 appearances for the Reds' first-team.

The Norway international has also been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 7.76 during the 2021-22 club campaign.

Due to Haaland's age, it would be fair to assume that he still has another level to reach, which is obviously exciting.

We believe that Liverpool would be silly to not at least attempt to sign the centre-forward.
