"Negative narrative" - David James gives his opinion on Mohamed Salah's future

David James claims that there seems to be a 'negative narrative' around Mohamed Salah's future at Liverpool.

Speaking to GGRecon, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, the former Liverpool goalkeeper has said that he hopes Mo Salah can agree a new contract with the Reds.

"There always seems to be a negative narrative regarding Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool. Every time I’ve seen him recently he’s been in good spirits. I don’t hear anybody at the club talking about there being a problem," said James.

“It’s just a fact of the contract not being agreed upon. If you’ve got Mohamed Salah in a good place, then would the proceeds of a sale outweigh the reward of keeping him?

“If you’re Liverpool and you can keep your Golden Boot winner who gets important goals and assists, then you’re giving yourself a better chance of winning trophies. If his contribution is worth more than a sale then you should keep him there.

“I hope the contract can be agreed upon, otherwise you’re going to have to bring in another body.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

With Mo Salah still yet to sign a new deal with Liverpool, a lot of people are starting to think he is trying to hold the club to ransom.

Even though he had an unbelievable start to the campaign, the last part of his season when he returned from AFCON was miles below his usual standards, only scoring three goals in the final 11 Premier League games.

Yes, he won the Golden Boot but he was around 10 goals ahead of the nearest competitor at one point and he ended up having to share the award with Tottenham's Son Heung-min.

It doesn't look like Salah's future is going to be decided anytime soon with his representatives and the club apparently at a complete standstill over his new deal.
