Liverpool centre-back Nat Phillips has opened up on his future.

The Englishman was loaned out to Bournemouth for the second-half of the 2021-22 campaign.

Phillips made 18 appearances for the Cherries and helped the club gain promotion to the Premier League.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a return to the Vitality Stadium. Going by Phillips' latest comments, he is interested in signing for Bournemouth ahead of next season.

As quoted Anfield Watch on Twitter, he told the Liverpool Echo the following: “I think we’ll talk in pre-season. The season’s just ended, it’s summer and everyone is on a break. There’s not really been any discussions so far.

“I’ve switched off from football at the moment, other than watching and supporting the lads at Liverpool, so we’ll see what happens and what is said. But up until now, there haven’t been any conversations.

“My main aspiration is to be playing regular football at the highest level possible. That’s always been the case, that’s never changed. I’d like to think that would be the Premier League after my time last season with Liverpool, now with Bournemouth getting promoted.

“As much as I enjoy being around Liverpool with all the staff, all the players and all the training sessions, it is amazing, all players want to be playing games and I’m no different. I knew January would potentially give me the opportunity to do that.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

We can see where Phillips is coming from. The centre-back is behind the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate and Joel Matip in the pecking order at Anfield.

Therefore, it would make sense for Phillips to leave Liverpool ahead of next season. He is 25 years of age, so he should be playing regular senior football.

Phillips is contracted until June 2025, so the Reds will receive a reasonable transfer fee if they do sell him.

Liverpool would reportedly like £15 million for the defender. Only time will tell where Phillips' long-term future lies.
