"Much has been made" - John Aldridge on why Liverpool can't worry about Haaland
Former Liverpool player John Aldridge has said that the Reds should not be too concerned about Manchester City forward Erling Haaland.
The reigning Premier League champions signed the Norway international from Borussia Dortmund for a transfer fee of £54 million earlier this summer.
Haaland has scored 10 goals in seven appearances this season. The aforementioned figures highlight that the 22-year-old is a world-class forward.
However, Aldridge has explained why Liverpool should not be too concerned about Haaland's form.
"Much has been made about the damage he is going to cause to opponents in the coming months but, regardless of how dangerous he is and the impact he is clearly having, City have still dropped four points (in the Premier League)," he told the Liverpool Echo, as quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account.
"Liverpool can’t worry about them, we just have to worry about ourselves. Haaland is going to score a lot of goals but he can’t do it every single game and City will have off days over the course of the season."
Anfield Watch Verdict
Aldridge does make a fair point. Haaland obviously gives Manchester City a point of difference.
But, the reality is, the Citizens have still dropped points with the striker playing.
So, Manchester City are certainly not invincible. However, Liverpool are going to have to play a lot better if they are to challenge for the Premier League title.
The Reds have only accumulated nine points from a possible 18 to begin the season.
