"More than happy" - Pundit thinks Liverpool will sell Roberto Firmino for this price

Former Premier League player Noel Whelan thinks that Liverpool would be "more than happy" if they received £20 million for striker Roberto Firmino.

When asked if Firmino would fetch the same price as Sadio Mane did (£35m transfer to Bayern Munich this summer), the ex-Leeds player said that the Brazilian isn't one of Liverpool's "go-to guys" like the Senegal international was.

“No, not for me," Whelan told Football Insider.

“Mane was just a different player, he was still a match winner, he was playing week in week out, he was one of their go-to guys.

“I think Firmino has fallen down the pecking order, there’s people in front of him. Of course we know what he’s capable of but he didn’t really hit those heights that we saw a few seasons ago. Whatever that’s down to, who knows.

“I don’t think they can command a fee anywhere near that, especially going into the last year. If they were to get £20 million for him I think they’d be more than happy.“

Anfield Watch Verdict

The reports that Juventus wantFirmino this summer seem very strange to me. The Italian outfit only just signed Dusan Vlahovic last season and they have a plethora of other attacking options.

If Firmino was to join them, then he'd be a backup player, something he is set to be in the upcoming season for Liverpool.

The only difference would be that the Brazilian would be playing under a different manager who wouldn't know his full skillset.

Jurgen Klopp knows Firmino inside out and he trusts him so much. If we need a goal or need to change the game, then he will bring the Brazilian on.

However, I do agree with Whelan that we would sell for a certain price.

Firmino's contract is set to expire at the end of the season and I think if the Reds receive anything above £25 million this summer, then they'd have to consider letting him leave.

Personally, I wouldn't mind if Firmino wants to run his contract down. He's given so much for the club and I'll always have a soft spot for him.
