Monaco's Sporting Director addresses Aurelien Tchouameni links to Liverpool & Real Madrid
Monaco’s sporting director Paul Mitchell has revealed what Liverpool and Real Madrid will have to do to sign Aurelien Tchouameni this summer.
Speaking to RMCSport, as quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Mitchell spoke about Liverpool and Real Madrid's interest in the midfielder.
“Who would I rather sell Tchouameni to between Madrid and Liverpool?" he said. "I don't have a preference. The offers need to be VERY aggressive.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
Reports earlier this week have basically confirmed Liverpool's interest in Tchouameni.
Monday's edition of L'Équipe, as cited by LFC Transfer Room, claimed that the 22-year-old 'dreams' about Liverpool’s project and that he has already held discussions with the Reds' representatives.
In line with Mitchell's 'aggressive' offer, the report also states that Monaco would want around €100 million (£84 million) for Tchouameni this summer.
The French midfielder has been a mainstay in the Ligue 1 side this season, playing 50 games for them in all competitions.
Despite being a central defensive midfielder, he has chipped in with five goals and three assists for Philippe Clement's side.
Speaking to journalist Luke Entwistle, Tchouameni addressed the Monaco fans wanting him to stay amid rumours that Real Madrid and Liverpool are interested in him.
“It’s true, there are lots people that are hoping to see me stay. That makes me happy because it shows that I’m doing good work."
Before the season ended, Tchouameni also said that he was thinking about the final fixture, but didn't rule out a move this summer.
“As I’ve said before, what is certain is that there is one match in Monegasque colours against Lens and after that we’ll see what happens.”
Liverpool will be desperate to sign him ahead of the Spanish champions. We need a right-sided midfielder and Tchouameni fits the role perfectly.
We can also offer him more game time than Real Madrid. Unfortunately, their pull is probably bigger than ours due to the club's connections in France.
Only time will tell where the 22-year-old will end up.
