Mohamed Salah's record vs Man City as he chases Liverpool milestone

There was a mixture of excitement and concern among Liverpool supporters when Mohamed Salah's number was put on the substitute board with 15 minutes left to play against Sparta Prague.

The Egyptian, who had played just twice for the Reds in 2024 prior to Thursday's cameo in the Czech capital, was a welcome sight at the epet Arena, but with Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday, there were understandable fears about the winger aggravating the injury from which he has just returned.

Fortunately, Mohamed Salah appeared to navigate his comeback without sustaining any further damage, even seeing a goal chalked off for the most marginal of offsides.

The No.11's return cannot be overstated ahead of an almighty showdown in the Premier League title race on Sunday, with Salah capable of giving Liverpool that 'X factor' ahead of the champions' visit.

With Darwin Nunez also impressing since his recent return from the treatment room and Liverpool having won seven games on the bounce, Jurgen Klopp's side will be full of confidence this weekend.

As will Salah, especially given his impressive record against Man City...

MOHAMED SALAH'S RECORD VS MAN CITY

Given the quality of the Man City sides that Salah has faced since arriving on Merseyside, the 31-year-old's record against the current title holders is pretty impressive.

Salah has scored 11 times against the Cityzens in 20 appearances - although one of those came with Chelsea - and has also provided a helpful six assists for teammates.

Only against Manchester United has Salah scored more frequently (12 goals in just 13 apps), while he has also netted 11 against Tottenham and West Ham United.

That means a brace for Salah on Sunday would make Man City his favourite opponent, while a brace of assists would also achieve the same feat in terms of playmaking.

Even just one more on Sunday would help Salah achieve a personal milestone and a Liverpool record as it would see him become the first player to score 20+ goals in seven consecutive seasons for the Reds.

Salah has scored some pretty memorable goals in this fixture - his long-range lob over Ederson in the 4-3 win at Anfield, the mazy run and powerful finish in a 2-2 draw and the delicate chip at the Etihad in the Champions League - and he has the ability to be a match-winner for Liverpool this weekend.

In terms of Salah's winning record against Man City, the Egyptian has a 36.8% current win rate against them for Liverpool (7 out of 19).

A victory for the Reds on Sunday would take his overall tally against the Manchester side to eight wins, five draws and eight defeats in all competitions.

It's also worth noting that Liverpool have failed to win just one game this season in which Salah has scored (2-2 with Brighton in October), suggesting the Reds could be in for a positive afternoon if the attacker can get his name on the scoresheet this Sunday.
