Mohamed Salah seemingly targeted by pitch invaders in Egypt victory

Mohamed Salah was seemingly the target of several pitch invaders during Egypt's 2-0 victory over Sierra Leone on Sunday.

Having scored four in a 6-0 win over Djibouti in Egypt's first 2026 World Cup qualifier during the November international break, Salah then travelled to face Sierra Leone in Paynesville, Liberia.

Egypt won 2-0 in a fiery encounter thanks to a brace from former Aston Villa forward Trezeguet, with Sierra Leone also having two players sent off - Tyrese Fornah in the first-half and Abdul Kabia in the ninth minute of stoppage time.

However, with just a minute of normal time remaining, the game was halted after two pitch invaders made their way on to the field. While footage of the incident is not entirely clear, it appears the pitch invaders may have targeted Salah before being dealt with by security.

After the first man was tackled to the ground by security, a second invader ran towards Salah before being pushed away by the Liverpool attacker's international teammate Mohamed Abdelmonem.

When the pitch invaders were eventually removed by stewards, the game continued despite the strange and alarming scenes. Fortunately, Salah was able to finish the game and left the pitch unharmed.

It was a bizarre end to the international break for Salah, somewhat marring what had been a positive week for the Pharaohs.

Having won both their games to shoot to the top of Group A, Salah also became the country's all-time record goalscorer in World Cup qualification.

Liverpool's No. 11 continued his fine form this season over the international period and will hopefully be fit and firing for the return of the Premier League on Saturday.

Salah already has 12 goals and four assists for the Reds this season and was named October's Premier League Player of the Month.
