Mohamed Salah on track to smash own record for most FPL points in a season
It's getting to the point where it's harder to find record charts that Mohamed Salah doesn't lead than ones he does.
With his brace against Brentford on Sunday, Liverpool's 'Egyptian King' took his personal goals tally to 200 in English football and became the first player this season to pass the 100-point mark in Fantasy Premier League (FPL).
After the game at Anfield, Brentford boss Thomas Frank hailed Salah as the best player in the league and it's an assertion borne out by his FPL tally.
With 101 points after gameweek 12, Salah leads the FPL rankings ahead of league top scorer Erling Haaland (96 points).
It's another demonstration of just how in-form the Liverpool number 11 is right now and, although there's a long way to go, Salah is on track to break another mightily impressive record.
Having played every match for the Reds in the Premier League so far in 2023/24, Salah is averaging 8.41 FPL points per game. Were he to keep that up for all 38 games this season, the winger (who is classed as a midfielder by the Premier League run game) would end up with over 319 points.
That total would see him smash his own record for the most FPL points ever achieved by a player in a single season – currently the 303 he achieved during the 2017/18 season (his maiden year at Liverpool when he scored 32 times).
These projections are made off Salah keeping up his current points average over 38 games, a perhaps unlikely (if not impossible) eventuality.
However, based on a campaign of 36 appearances (the winger's average per season in his six years at Anfield), Salah would still match his own 303 score at the current rate – putting into perspective just how impressive his start to the season has been.
With ten goals and four assists, only Haaland has more goal involvements in the Premier League so far in 2023/24.
Mohamed Salah FPL points history by season
Perhaps the most reliable pick in all of FPL since his return to English football with Liverpool in 2017, Salah has never dipped below 231 points in a campaign and holds the record for the highest ever tally by a player in a season (303 in 2017/18).
2017/18 – 303 points
2018/19 – 259 points
2019/20 – 233 points
2020/21 – 231 points
2021/22 – 265 points
2022/23 – 239 points
