Mohamed Salah offers update on contract situation

Mohamed Salah has given an update on the ongoing contract situation that has grabbed plenty of headlines in the last few months.

The Egyptian forward's current deal with Liverpool expires in June 2023 and that means this summer will mark the beginning of the final year of his contract.

Indeed, that becomes an issue because other clubs will start to think that they might be able to get Mo in from Merseyside in the near future, and so hopefully a contract at Anfield is sorted in the months before then.

As yet, nothing is official though and, according to Salah himself, he wants to stay at the club but it is in the hands of those that make the big financial decisions.

He said to GQ via Anfield Watch on Twitter:

"I've been here for my fifth year now. I know the club very well. I love the fans. The fans love me. But with the administration, they have [been] told the situation. It's in their hands.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

No-one at Liverpool wants Mo to leave but, at the same time, the longer it goes on the more you worry about it potentially happening.

All the noises are good ones - both the club and the player want to strike a deal - but until the ink is dried on the contract there is work and negotiations to be done.

That said, there's time yet for things to be sorted and hopefully that will happen in the near future.
