Micah Richards makes bizarre dig at Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah, who has the second-most assists in the Premier League so far this season, has been slammed by Micah Richards for 'not doing a lot else' other than scoring goals.

Any sane football fan recognises that Salah is one of the best players on the planet, and the numbers he has put up year after year ever since joining Liverpool are out of this world.

He has broken record after record, won every trophy possible at club level and consistently been the absolute benchmark for both his goalscoring ability and creativity, domestically and in Europe.

In his 315 appearances for Liverpool thus far, the Egyptian King has scored 192 goals, and registered 78 assists – a phenomenal record for a 'number nine', let alone a wide player.

However, this isn't quite enough for popular pundit Richards, who has massively played down the 31-year-old's ability, categorising him as purely a goalscorer with little else to offer.

Speaking on the BBC Match Of The Day: top 10 podcast, the former defender who once played alongside Salah at Fiorentina said: "You all have to know your role, you have someone to score the goals, someone to link it all together and someone with a lot of pace.

"You look at Liverpool, Salah scores all the goals, he doesn’t do a lot else really."

Bear in mind, we are talking about a player who has ten or more assists in his last four Premier League seasons, while simultaneously competing for, and often topping, the league's goalscoring charts year after year.

In fact, since the 2017/18 season, only Kevin De Bruyne has more Premier League assists than Salah.

In response to being questioned by Gary Lineker on the controversial opinion, Richards doubled down, saying: "Yeah (he gets assists), but it’s rolls across the box, it’s not like dribbling past three players and then, that’s what I’d say.”

Anyone who watches Salah week in week out understands just how wrong that opinion is, with the Egyptian playing breathtaking through balls almost every game – not to mention the impressive link-up play he has forged with Darwin Nuñez this season.

Not only is Salah criminally underrated by general fans – he is without doubt a Premier League hall of famer – but the playmaking ability he has developed in recent years is also completely slept on.

We'll see if Richards holds the same opinion come the end of the season, when Salah inevitably records double digits for both goals and assists yet again.
