Mohamed Salah breaks another record in four-goal haul with Egypt

Mohamed Salah has smashed yet another record on international duty as he scored four in Egypt's 6-0 win over Djibouti in 2026 World Cup qualifying.

Egypt face a trip to Sierra Leone on Sunday but started their qualification campaign for the 2026 World Cup with a more than convincing demolition of Djibouti on Thursday.

Djibouti are CAF's (Confederation of African Football) third lowest-ranked side, sitting 189th in FIFA's world rankings, with their drubbing at the hands of Egypt not overly surprising.

Nor was it too surprising to see Salah on the scoresheet, the Liverpool winger grabbing four of Egypt's six to carry his exceptional club form into the November international break.

Salah netted two in the first-half, converting Mostafa Mohamed's cross for his opener and then rifling home from the penalty spot just five minutes later.

His hat-trick goal early in the second-half was similar to his first, a far post tap-in from a good cross, but his fourth was the pick of the bunch. Salah collected a cross inside the area before driving home a left-footed strike into the bottom corner with aplomb.

In the process of grabbing four goals for Egypt, he became the country's all-time record goalscorer in World Cup qualifying after he took his tally to 15.

Salah's impressive showing against Djibouti means he now has 53 goals for Egypt, but he still finds himself second in the overall rankings behind Hossam Hassan.

Liverpool's No. 11 will be hopeful of adding to his tally against Sierra Leone in Egypt's next World Cup qualifier on Sunday, although they should prove a tougher test for the seven-time Africa Cup of Nations winners.

Salah already has 12 goals and four assists for the Reds this season and was also named Premier League Player of the Month for October as he continues to sparkle for club and country.
