Mohamed Salah becomes only the fifth player to score 200 Liverpool goals

Mohamed Salah is now the fifth player to score 200 goals for Liverpool, reaching the landmark figure with the equalising goal against Crystal Palace on Saturday lunchtime.

The Egyptian's heavily deflected strike brought the Reds back into the game after they went behind to Roy Hodgson's side at Selhurst Park. It was also his 150th Premier League goal.

Incredible consistency

Salah arrived at Liverpool in 2017 as the final piece of a new Liverpool attack alongside Sadio Mané and Roberto Firmino. He was supposed to a smart acquisition who would improve the attack and move the Reds forward.

However, it was immediately apparent that Salah was far more than that. Liverpool had, unbeknownst to them, signed one of the world's best players and one of the finest goalscorers in Premier League history.

Salah finished his debut campaign by breaking the scoring record for a 38-game season in the Premier League, hitting the net 32 times. That tally was more than he'd managed in two seasons with AS Roma - and those two seasons had been the best of his career.

In total, the winger had 44 goals across all competitions that season. He hasn't actually come particularly close to matching that since, but instead reached a level of consistency that very few players have ever matched.

With a tally of 23 goals, 27 goals, back-to-back 31-goal seasons, another 30 last year - Salah has been impeccable. Notably, Liverpool endured difficult campaigns both last season and in 2020/21 but their no.11 scored 31 and 30 respectively. Even when things are falling apart around him, Salah has still found a way to give the Reds a chance.

Goal number 200 is Salah's 14th of this season, too, and he is currently on course to beat his debut-season tally. It's hard to imagine he stops at 200.

In illustrious company

Saturday's goal against Crystal Palace sees Salah become only the fifth player to do this for Liverpool. That moves the Reds one past Manchester United for a total number of players past 200 goals and it's the most of any club in English football.

Just sitting above Salah is Billy Liddell. One of the greatest and most influential players in the club's history, he scored 228 goals in 534 games between 1938 and 1961.

Gordon Hodgson is next. The South African-born striker was a revelation in the pre-Second World War years. He scored 241 times in 377 appearances to become the first player with 200 Liverpool goals. Hodgson also boasts the best games-to-goal ratio of any Red in history - 1.56

Roger Hunt is second on Liverpool's all-time top-scorer list and is one of the most important players the club have ever seen. Hunt was the star goalscorer in the early Bill Shankly years, steering the club from the Second Division to being the best in England. The legendary striker did once hold first place on the all-time list, setting a mark of 285 goals across 492 appearances. His tally of 244 remains the league record for the Reds.

Ian Rush is Liverpool's all-time top scorer and his mark of 346 is essentially unassailable. He achieved that in 660 games through the most dominant period of any side to ever play English football. Rush won everything at Liverpool and is unquestionably the finest goalscorer to ever where the shirt. No one is catching him anytime soon.
