Mohamed Salah is the best player in the Premier League this season.

His consistency over the last eight seasons is unmatched and his contract should reflect that.

That is the stance that Mohamed Salah is taking this season concerning his negotiations with Liverpool over extending his stay on Merseyside.

His 40-goal contributions already this season stand on their own as a clear reason why FSG cannot afford to lose him and penny-pinching over a player's contract when he is as close to a guarantee of goals as you can get is pathetic really.

Salah's intention has always been to finish his career at Liverpool, playing the next few seasons in front of the adoring Anfield crowd, but now that he is in the final year of his contract, and movement on an agreement is slow, he risks leaving through no choice of his own.

The latest report suggests that Salah has declined the club's offer to prolong his stay with the club and the Egyptian's intentions are clear.

Salah wants to be paid his worth

According to the Arabic football outlet Masrawy, Salah has declined his latest contract because the club's terms were not agreeable.

He was asked to renew his contract for two to three years while lowering his salary. We understand the offer to be based on the stance that the longer he wants to play for, the bigger the pay cut will be - which on the face of it seems logical because Salah is only getting older and his performance levels are only going to deteriorate.

But on the face of it, there is only one problem. Salah isn't a logical player, he's capable of the extraordinary and that is exactly what is happening this season.

His 40 goal contributions - 23 goals and 17 assists - so far this season mean he is likely to break countless records by the end of the season, delivering the best season of his career, at the age of 32. It's mind-boggling.

As such, Salah is directly against reducing his terms, or at least reducing his terms to the level that the club currently sees fit, so an agreement is not going to happen unless someone changes their stance.

But while the Egyptian is also being subject to substantial interest from Saudi Arabia, his commitment to the club at this time is unwavering.

The report adds: "The offer was not accepted by Mohamed Salah, who is waiting for a new offer to arrive."

So it is clear, that for the time being, Salah isn't thinking of going anywhere, keeping his mind firmly locked onto winning silverware at the club this season - specifically the Premier League which he feels should be the competition that takes priority as the campaign progresses.

His stance remains the same. No, this wasn't the offer he wanted but he wants to see the next one. Importantly, he also expects there to be a next one. It's a process and we're not at the end of it yet.

Liverpool have several different contracts to sort out this season, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil Van Dijk's also set to expire at the end of the season, so the club's next step will need to be calculated if they are to keep all three sets of negotiations on the table.

But time is of the essence and while Salah is willing to keep waiting around for now, it is not guaranteed that he will be available for renewal forever. Once that June 1 deadline passes, there is little the club can do to sway him off other club's approaches.

This is all down to the return of Michael Edwards who is trying to realign the old transfer structure.

He would never have given Salah 350k a week Eddy the Ego who doesn't like publicity is orchestrating this from.upstairs and using Richard Hughes as his buffer and public whipping boy
