Playing at his current level, Mohamed Salah is set to break every Premier League record in sight.

He has 37 goal contributions across all competitions already, and he is far and away the most in-form player in world football.

While Salah playing well should not be a surprise, the eight-season wonder has never had a season like this before and even though he is 32 years old, he is showing no sign of slowing down.

As such, the club finds itself in a precarious position, having let his contract run down on the assumption that his performance levels would slowly decline. Meanwhile, this season, he's playing the best football of his career, and the club will need to offer him an unprecedented wage package if they are to keep him on Merseyside next season.

Saudi clubs still waiting in the wings for Salah

Through being funded by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, the football clubs in the region have a vast amount of financial power to convince players from Europe of a move to the Middle East.

In doing so, they are attempting to bring the spotlight to the Saudi Pro League, in order to increase their influence on the global game - a process many consider to be sportswashing.

As such, Mo Salah is the ideal candidate to be the face of the sport in the region, given his undeniable sporting ability, his Arabic heritage as an Egyptian player, and the wages that he would be looking for that the Saudis can easily afford.

Over the past few years, transfer fees in the region of £100m to £150m have been rumoured for Salah, but his loyalty has always been with Liverpool as he has developed a deep connection with the club since he moved to Merseyside in 2017.

But now that he is on the verge of leaving Liverpool as a free agent upon the expiration of his contract, the Saudis are lurking once again, and a new video has emerged involving Salah's father that suggests the Saudi clubs could have a bidding war for his signature.

The video posted to X (formerly Twitter) by Bayt Alhilal, shows Salah's father, a fan and a cameraman, engaging in a conversation about Mo's future.

One person says: "Mohamed Salah will go to Al Hilal."

Another says to Salah's dad: "We want Salah at Al Ittihad."

And then Salah's dad replies: "There's Al Ittihad and Al Hilal. We will do a draw and see who pays more [laughs]."

The factual nature of this video is unconfirmed, and this does not suggest that Salah agrees with his dad's perspective on his future, but if Mo is to make the move to Saudi Arabia, then his family may have just clarified which clubs he is most likely to consider.

At Al Ittihad, Salah would have the possibility of meeting up with his former Liverpool teammate Fabinho, alongside former Real Madrid star Karim Benzema. Meanwhile, at Al Hilal, he could play alongside Neymar and Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Above all, it’s a reminder that Salah is not actually particularly close to a new Liverpool contract. There’s plenty of interest in him, too - and that’s clearly something his family are very aware of.

We’d love to hear family members brush off talk of a move elsewhere. Instead, Saudi Arabia - among others - is very much on the table still.

Salah's rumoured moves have all but been rumours so far, but he can officially speak to other clubs about a possible pre-agreement contract from January 1 in just a few days. Until then, and for the remainder of the season while they still can, Liverpool will be desperately trying to tie him down to an extended spell with the Reds.
