Mohamed Salah tops charts as best playmaker in the Premier League
Mo Salah can seemingly do everything as he tops charts that have him as the best creator in the Premier League this season. Liverpool's superstar just keeps getting better.
Mo Salah has certainly started this season well. He's already scored eight times in the Premier League, putting him joint-second in the scoring charts behind Erling Haaland and level with Son Heung-min.
But that's far from all he's doing. The Egyptian isn't just an elite goalscorer - he's arguably the most creative player in England right now.
Certainly, the stats back that up. Per FotMob, no one has created more 'big chances' in the league this season than Salah's nine. For context of just how good that is at this stage, a total of nine was good enough for 23rd across the entirety of last season. In fact, it's worth noting that Salah 'only' managed 15 last season.
This season is showing him at his creative best, though. That's again highlighted in Opta data that has Salah as the Premier League's leader for expected assists right now.
This stat works by judging the likelihood of a goal (1 being certain, 0.1 being incredibly unlikely) when a player takes a shot from a teammate's pass. Essentially, Salah's passes should have directly generated 4.6 goals. No one else in the league can match that figure.
Only four players have more actual assists than Salah this season but all have benefitted greatly by players finishing difficult chances. Liverpool's star has exactly four, suggesting his teammates are finishing the chances exactly on average. Everyone else above him on the assist chart, however, has at least two more assists than expected.
All of this is impressive from Salah - and doesn't even include moments such as in the derby, where his pass put Dominik Szoboszlai in behind for an assist. He's largely running the show for the Reds, even at times when he's not directly contributing on the stat sheet.
Liverpool's no.11 is firing on all cylinders, then, with arguably the most remarkable fact being that he's creating above everyone else while still scoring nearly a goal per game. What a player.
