Mohamed Salah could return to action for Liverpool's trip to Brentford this weekend as he steps up his recovery from injury.

The winger has been out of action since 18 January after suffering a hamstring tear during Egypt's 2-2 draw with Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Salah then returned to Merseyside for treatment with his recovery timeline estimated at between three to four weeks.

The Reds' Premier League game against Brentford on Saturday, 17 February will come at just over four weeks on from Salah's initial injury, with the forward in contention to make the matchday squad should he return to team training this week.

Salah has been on an individual training programme since his injury, working on his return to fitness.

The No. 11 has regularly shared images from his rehabilitation since his return to Merseyside, most recently posting a series of pics from the gym to his Instagram story on Sunday morning.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's 3-1 win over Burnley, Jurgen Klopp provided a positive update on Salah, revealing he is eager re-join training as soon as possible.

He said: "Mo is going in the right direction. We hope - but we don't know - that he can be a part of training next week. If you ask him, it's next week.

"He's going through his paces now, but it's positive. It will be next week or the week after. If you ask him, it will be next week!"

Salah has not featured for Liverpool at all since New Year's Day, when he scored twice and provided an assist in the 4-2 win over Newcastle.

He remains the Reds' top scorer this season, while only Erling Haaland has more Premier League goals — with 16 to Salah's 14.

Impressively, Liverpool have lost just one in eight in Salah's absence so far (six wins, one draw), averaging 2.75 goals per game.
