Mo Salah - Liverpool contract agreement in REACH
Say it quietly, but we’ve seemingly got to the end of the January transfer window without Mo Salah agreeing a pre-contract with another team.
We have also got there without Salah signing a new contract with Liverpool.
Liverpool FC News Today: Barcelona hero set to leave as Trent Alexander-Arnold nears agreement
The more time passes, the edgier fans get about keeping hold of the talismanic figure at Anfield. Reports ranging from agreements being close, to deals with PSG and Al-Hilal, and everything in between, have been abundant.
And a new report from Saudi outlet Al Yaum is suggesting that Salah and Liverpool have reached an impasse.
Salah and Liverpool struggle to find agreement
"According to informed sources, negotiations between Mohamed Salah and Liverpool to renew the Egyptian star's contract have reached a dead end following months of intensive talks between the two parties.” reads the report.
"Although Liverpool's management has expressed a desire to keep the team's top scorer for the next few years, an agreement on some financial details and contract terms appears to be a major obstacle to reaching a final agreement.”
Whilst this could understandably cause serious concerns to some fans, it’s actually a positive situation. The report goes on to read that,
"According to sources close to the player, his first preference is to stay with Liverpool, but only if his contract is improved to reflect his status as one of the best players in the world” and that, despite difficulties, “there is a sense within the club that a deal with Salah is not impossible.”
This comes alongside the catch that Saudi champions Al-Hilal, who recently agreed to part ways with Brazilian superstar Neymar, are doing everything they can to bring in Salah.
"According to sources, Al-Hilal is ready to make a tempting offer that includes a record salary and a long-term contract that guarantees Salah's financial stability, especially given that he is currently in a free period that allows him to negotiate with any other club without getting back to Liverpool management."
This should be read as an exciting report that indicates Salah’s desire to get a deal with Liverpool over the line. He knows what the offer is in Saudi Arabia - the money is there, the lifestyle is there and so are the football opportunities. There’s no hiding what going there would be. If he wanted to do it then he would have done it already.
This is nothing but still trying to leverage his position to get the best possible contract he can with Liverpool. The club may be playing hardball at present and Salah is wise to it. Extracting the highest possible salary and ideal contract length is fair enough.
But don’t get it twisted. Mo Salah wants to stay at Liverpool and is doing everything he can to ensure it happens.
