Mohamed Salah steps up recovery ahead of Liverpool's Burnley clash

Mohamed Salah is continuing his rehabilitation from the hamstring injury which ended his Africa Cup of Nations campaign back in January and could feature in this weekend’s Premier League fixture against Burnley.

The Liverpool talisman suffered the injury during Egypt’s second Afcon group stage match against Ghana on January 18 and flew back to Merseyside in an effort to hasten his recovery.

Hopes were that Salah could recover sufficiently in order to play in the latter stages of the competition for the Pharaohs but a penalty shootout defeat to DR Congo in the round of 16 put paid to those hopes.

Now focus is again on club action with Salah pictured running outside at Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre last week.

The 31-year-old’s agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, sparked fears on January 22 when he declared that Salah’s injury wasn’t a mere knock and it would instead sideline him for up to four weeks.

“Mohammed’s injury is more serious than first thought and he will be out for 21-28 days, and not 2 games”, he wrote on X.

The Burnley game will be three weeks and two days beyond the date of the original injury, meaning if Salah is recovering as expected then he could play some part at Anfield against the Clarets.

On Monday night, Salah posted gym pictures to his Instagram Stories, with the player working hard to be fit for the Reds’ title push, leaving fans speculating over his return.

Liverpool could do with the boost that Salah’s return would bring having lost to Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday without him.

Jurgen Klopp will be without Ibrahima Konate on Saturday with the French defender suspended and Dominik Szoboszlai looks set for another extended period on the sidelines having suffered a hamstring injury of his own.
