Liverpool team news: two more big injury doubts ahead of Luton & Carabao Cup final

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez are being monitored 'day by day', with both players fitness concerns ahead of a crunch period for Liverpool.

The Reds face a big week, with the visit of Luton Town to Anfield in the Premier League on Wednesday night followed by Sunday's Carabao Cup final against Chelsea.

Salah returned from a hamstring injury to score and assist in the 4-1 win over Brentford last Saturday, but was only introduced in the first half after Diogo Jota had to be substituted.

Following the game, there were reports that the Egyptian had aggravated his pre-existing issue.

Meanwhile, Nunez was withdrawn at half-time at the Gtech Community Stadium, with Klopp claiming the striker's substitution was pre-cautionary.

While neither Salah nor Nunez have been ruled out of contention for the upcoming fixtures, Klopp revealed his concern over his forwards amid a slew of other injury issues in the squad.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday's clash with Luton, he said: "He [Nunez] felt that in that game and there was nothing around. We go day by day.

"It is day by day as well with Mo. It’s a similar area where he feels it [fatigue] a little bit. We have to see how it develops. It’s nothing crazy, but we have to see."

While Salah and Nunez are doubts, Liverpool have as many as nine first-team players who are definitively ruled out of Wednesday's game.

"It's not great,” Klopp told reporters of his squad's situation. “Definitely not.

"We would like to sit here and say there are absolutely no issues but obviously we have some."

Klopp revealed that goalkeeper Alisson is not available for the 'foreseeable' future, while Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dominik Szoboszlai were also described as 'longer-term' absentees.

Jota, too, is likely to be out for 'months rather than weeks', Klopp admitted, while the manager refused to speculate on the other casualty of the win over Brentford, Curtis Jones.

"For tomorrow you will see the line up early enough and you can see who made it and who didn't make it," Klopp said.
