Mo Salah agent's worrying INSIGHT about Liverpool contract talks
Mo Salah signed a contract back in 2022 but it comes to an end next year. His agent gives a clue on Liverpool’s thinking.
As you’ve likely heard, Mo Salah is out of contract at the end of the season. He’s not the only one, either - Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold also see their deals expire in June.
It means Salah can talk with non-English clubs from January 1st and agree a pre-contract. Whether he does that or not is completely his choice - but Liverpool will want to get him a new deal before then.

That’s not in question at all. Liverpool would much, much rather keep Salah than let him go. The real question is whether they want to agree to his demands.
Other clubs will. There’s enormous interest in Saudi Arabia, while it also appears that Paris Saint-Germain want him. Both boast more financial power than Liverpool.
And it certainly appears that Liverpool already believe Salah is overpaid. At least, that’s the suspicion of his agent.
Mo Salah’s 2022 deal
The Athletic reports that Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas, felt Liverpool weren’t entirely on board with the contract offered in 2022. That deal saw the Egyptian become the Reds’ highest-paid player ever on one of the biggest contracts in football at the time.
It’s still the biggest contract Liverpool have ever put on the table. And they did it for a player they weren’t 100% sure was worth it.
That now sounds silly, of course, but Liverpool are very reluctant to pay big money for players over 30. It’s too risky - a quick decline can completely cripple the team, leaving a poor player on enormous wages.
Abbas felt there was real reluctance in the offer in 2022, enough that he wasn’t certain Liverpool wanted Salah to sign it. And that was over two years ago - the Egyptian is even older now and an even bigger risk.
If it was a problem back then, it’s a bigger problem now. So just what are Liverpool willing to pay Salah going forward?
