Michael Owen questions Divock Origi hugging Jurgen Klopp

Pundit Michael Owen does not understand why Liverpool forward Divock Origi hugged Reds boss Jurgen Klopp after yesterday's Merseyside derby.

Liverpool defeated Everton 2-0 at Anfield. Origi replaced Naby Keita 60 minutes into the clash and found the back of the net shortly after.

With that being the case, Origi gave Klopp a post-game hug. But, Owen was not a fan of the pair embracing each other.

“What was telling there was the hug Divock Origi gave Jurgen Klopp,” the former Red told Premier League Productions (24/04/22 at 6:25 pm).

“If I was a centre-forward and I came on so many times to save my manager, yet he never played me and he only brought me on occasionally, then I wouldn’t be giving the manager such a big cuddle.

“You just know how much that man means to all of those Liverpool players and how much it means to those fans.

“That’s a huge result today. Big, big result. After 55 minutes, it was looking a little dodgy, brilliant double substitution and those subs made a huge difference to Liverpool.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Owen was a born winner so we aren't remotely surprised to hear that he was not a fan of Origi hugging Klopp post-match.

The former Red was not the type of player to settle for a squad role.

However, Origi is competing against the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz for a place in Liverpool's starting XI.

Therefore, it would be fair to assume that the Belgium international has simply accepted he is not as good as the other players.

Origi has no real reason to hold any animosity towards Klopp, which is certainly a good thing.
