Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen has hailed the impact of summer signing Dominik Szoboszlai, describing the midfielder's start to life at Anfield as 'unbelievably good'.

Szoboszlai came in as the Reds' most expensive transfer during the summer window, arriving from RB Leipzig for £60m.

The 23-year-old Hungary captain has hit the ground running on Merseyside, impressing with his work rate and technical ability to become an instant fan favourite.

As well as topping charts for chance creation and ground covered, Szoboszlai was also revealed to be the player who sold the most shirts according to club figures – showing just how much the supporters have taken to the new number eight.

Former Red Owen shares the enthusiasm for Szoboszlai, while adding that Klopp and the Liverpool players also took an instant liking to the new man.

Speaking to Premier League Productions (via the Liverpool Echo), he said: “You have to have some form of arrogance, some form of confidence, to do any job of a real high standard. There is one thing having those attributes, then there is the other of the perception you give to other people.

“I think he gives a good calming influence. Confident personality. I spoke to Jurgen Klopp about him and he said, ‘he walked straight into the dressing room and people liked him straight away'.

“I think he has done unbelievably well to start his Liverpool career. Long way to go, so far – he has had an awfully good start.

“He has created more chances in a Liverpool shirt than anybody else – how two-footed he is, is the immediate thing that impressed me. He can run. Pass. He can shoot. He can score goals and assist.

“He has been a real good asset to Liverpool already this season. He will only get better and better as a player. Gets around the pitch. Not scared to do his defensive duties.

“I think he is a real all-round player. He wins the ball back an awful lot as well. I have just been so impressed.”

Szoboszlai has two goals and two assists for Liverpool so far in 2023/24.
