"Maybe" - Paul Merson on youngster who could potentially start at Old Trafford

Pundit Paul Merson believes that new-boy Fabio Carvalho could start for Liverpool against Manchester United at Old Trafford tonight.

The Reds could be without both Roberto Firmino and Darwin Nunez for the Premier League fixture against the Red Devils.

With that being the case, Merson could see Carvalho starting for Liverpool at Old Trafford.

“With Roberto Firmino injured and Darwin Nunez suspended, they have no one to come off the bench and make an impact as a substitute,” the former Arsenal star told Sportskeeda.

“I have no clue who is going to play up front with Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah.

“Maybe young Fabio Carvalho will get thrown into the fray at Old Trafford?”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Carvalho is a fine young talent. Liverpool signed the attacker from Fulham for a transfer fee of £5.31 million earlier this summer.

Carvalho scored 12 goals and registered eight assists in 44 appearances for the Cottagers' first-team.

The 19-year-old also averaged a WhoScored player rating of 7.11 across the 2021-22 Championship campaign.

Carvalho could certainly do a job for Liverpool against Manchester United if he is required. We will support the team that Jurgen Klopp selects.

The reality is, the German knows what he is doing. There is a reason why Klopp has won six major trophies and the Community Shield during his time at Anfield.

So, we urge all Liverpool supporters to get behind the team tonight. A victory will take the Reds within two points of title favourites Manchester City.
