Here’s our Liverpool FC news recap for Sunday 26th May. The Reds could play against Joel Matip next season.

We're now firmly into transfer season at Liverpool. The season is over, players are on holiday and reports about arrivals are growing exponentially.

A lot of the focus is on Teun Koopmeiners of Atalanta. The Reds have been linked with him for some time now - and it's all coming to a head.

There's also talk of where both Joel Matip and Thiago could end up. Two particularly interesting reports, too.

Here's our Liverpool FC new recap for Sunday.

Liverpool could come up against one of Jurgen Klopp’s favourites next season as he eyes a move to a Premier League club.

The Daily Express reports that Joel Matip hopes to sign for a Premier League club this summer. The defender leaves Liverpool after eight years, having initially joined on a free transfer from Schalke 04.

And what a free transfer he was. Matip quickly cemented a role in the team and was Virgil van Dijk's partner for the 97-point Premier League season that culminated in the UEFA Champions League triumph.

Barcelona have contacted Thiago Alcantara over becoming an ASSISTANT to incoming head coach Hansi Flick.

That’s according to a new report in AS, which claims Barca are seeking a German and Spanish-speaking link between Flick and the dressing room.

Three players initially fit the bill for the Catalans, including Thiago, Javi Martinez and Marc Bartra. All three played in the Bundesliga - Thiago and Martinez for Bayern and Bartra for Borussia Dortmund.

In the case of Thiago and Bartra, meanwhile, they are both Barca La Masia graduates.

Atalanta are open to selling one of the key stars of their UEFA Europa League triumph and Liverpool are at the front of the queue.

Atalanta president Antonio Percassi has confirmed that his club could sell Teun Koopmeiners this summer. There are a couple of things that need to happen first, but this is a sale that's very much on the table.

"[We would sell Koopmeiners] only if it was consistent with the strategy required for a provincial club which must always have its accounts in order," said Percassi, per Gazzetta dello Sport.

Barcelona sporting director, Deco, is a massive fan of one Liverpool star. He wants him at the club this summer.

AS reports that Barcelona do want to sign Luis Diaz from Liverpool this summer. Specifically, though, sporting director Deco wants him.

Diaz is apparently the favourite of Deco, who has loved the Colombian since his time at FC Port. Deco is a former Porto player, of course, having been the star when they won the UEFA Champions League in 2004.

Reporters have battled to interview Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk after he made an appearance at the Monaco GP.

The Monaco GP was Sunday and Virgil van Dijk made an appearance at F1's showpiece event. The Liverpool captain was taking it all in and certainly made the rounds.

He was photographed with McLaren's Lando Norris early on in the day, before meeting up with France striker Kylian Mbappé, who also made the short trip to the event.

Perhaps the most notable moment, though, came as Sky Sports' Martin Brundle fought his way to an interview with Van Dijk - who was already being interviewed. A Dutch journalist from Viaplay had the microphone to his compatriot but up came Brundle.
