Match Preview: Liverpool vs Leeds United - Key battle, Team news, Prediction
Liverpool will welcome Leeds United to Anfield tonight.
The Reds are in fine form ahead of the aforementioned Premier League fixture. Liverpool have won their past five top-flight fixtures.
Jurgen Klopp's side are coming off a 3-1 victory over Norwich City, which took place at Anfield last weekend. Liverpool currently sit in second-place on the Premier League table.
Therefore, it would be fair to assume that the Reds have plenty of confidence heading into the match against Leeds United.
The Whites on the other hand are coming off a 4-2 loss to Manchester United, which occurred at Elland Road. Leeds United are not having a great season. They sit in 15th-place on the table.
Marcelo Bielsa's side are five points clear of the relegation zone.
Key Battle: Liverpool's forwards against Leeds' defence
Liverpool have scored goals for fun in the Premier League this season. The Reds have found the back of the net 64 times in 25 games.
Leeds United on the other hand can't stop conceding goals. The Whites have seen the ball hit the back of their own net 50 times in 24 matches.
Therefore, if Bielsa's side are to gain anything at Anfield, they will have to tighten up defensively.
Otherwise, the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Luis Diaz could have a field day.
Team News
Klopp has confirmed that both Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino will miss the clash against Leeds United due to respective injuries.
Leeds United have suffered a blow ahead of the Premier League match. Defender Robin Koch suffered a head injury against Manchester United last weekend, which means that he will miss the game against Liverpool.
Liverpool expected XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Elliott, Thiago, Salah, Mane, Diaz.
Leeds United expected XI: Meslier, Ayling, Llorente, Struijk, Dallas, Forshaw, Raphinha, Klich, Rodrigo, Harrison, James.
Previous Premier League Meeting
Liverpool defeated Leeds United 3-0 at Elland Road back in September 2021.
Salah, Fabinho and Sadio Mane were the Reds' goalscorers on the day.
However, it was not the perfect day for the club. Midfielder Harvey Elliott suffered a serious ankle injury against Leeds United.
As a result, the Englishman missed a total of 30 games for Liverpool. However, Elliott has since returned and is looking as fit as ever.
Prediction
We do expect Liverpool to win comfortably against Leeds United. The reality is, the Reds are a far better side than the Whites.
Liverpool are bound to breach a fragile Leeds United defence. It could be a case of how many. Then again, Klopp's team still has to rock up and perform.
There is no easy game in the Premier League. But, we strongly believe a character like Klopp won't allow Liverpool to be complacent.
In fact, the 54-year-old's comments ahead of the match back up the aforementioned argument.
"Leeds man-mark all over the pitch so if you are not in the game then Leeds will eat you," said Klopp in his pre-match press conference, as quoted by Sky Sports.
"They are leading in three decisive running Premier League stats. You have to be ready for these runs and they never give up on top of that. Some spectacular results in both directions.
"Leeds fight to stay in this league and they really never give up, so we have to make sure we cannot help tomorrow. We have a lot of work to do.
"I hope that we, as a unit with our supporters, are difficult to beat. If we are, we have a chance to win. We need to make sure we are really on it to give everything. If we're not ready for a fight, we will suffer."
